Scouting Pittsburgh

Indiana meets Pittsburgh today in the Jimmy V Classic. The game is at 9 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York. This is just the second meeting in the last 68 years between the teams. The Panthers beat the Hoosiers 74-52 in the second round of the 2003 NCAA tournament.

IU has a 108-59 record against Big East schools. Pittsburgh has won 10 of its last 12 against Big Ten schools.

Pittsburgh (7-1) has won three in a row. The Panthers' lone loss came Nov. 24 against Texas (78-62) in the CBE Classic in Kansas City, Mo. Pittsburgh beat New Hampshire 47-32 Friday after going into halftime leading 15-7.

For the seventh straight game, Pitt will start five players who had a combined one career start before the season opener. Pitt remains without its two top returnees from last year: Returning starter Jermaine Dixon (broken right foot) and last year's sixth man Gilbert Brown (academic suspension).

Ashton Gibbs leads the Panthers in scoring, averaging 16 points. Brad Wanamaker is averaging 12.5 points and 6 rebounds. He is one of three Pittsburgh players averaging at least 5.9 rebounds per game.
