It's not often an assistant basketball coach finds himself where Tony Jasick found himself this afternoon. It's even less often that he finds himself there for the reason Jasick did.
Jasick got a call from IPFW head coach Dane Fife about 11 a.m. today, informing him that he would be coaching the Mastodons this afternoon against North Dakota. The reason: Fife's wife, Blair, had gone into labor and they were heading to the hospital.
A few hours later, Jasick was 1-0 as a Division I head coach, after the Mastodons clocked North Dakota 73-52.
"Today will be a good day," Jasick said. "He won't have think about his team not playing well on his daughter's birthday."
