Warsaw star down, not out

Warsaw junior standout point guard Nic Moore got hurt in an unusual way before the game against Huntington North on Dec. 5.

Moore, who is averaging 24 points per game for the 4-1 Tigers, was shooting a layup in pregame warmups and landed on another basketball, twisting his ankle.

The team was about 15 seconds away from going into the locker room for the pregame talk.

Moore got his tape readjusted and tried to play in the game, but stayed in only about 30 seconds because the pain was too much.

Moore is expected to be back to action Friday for a game against high-scoring Wawasee.

The Tigers managed to beat the Vikings in a low-possession game 35-18 and then won against Rochester on Friday.

Moore has scholarship offers from IPFW, Evansville, Valparaiso and Ohio. Ball State and Northwestern also are interested.

Moore attended the Indiana-Kentucky game on Saturday and sat behind the IU bench, leaving the Hoosiers also in the mix. Rival Purdue has also shown some lukewarm interest.
