K's not surprised by suspension

Komets goaltender Tim Haun, who was given a match penalty for a baseball-like swing of the stick toward Port Huron's Derek Patrosso, was suspended by the IHL seven games Tuesday.

He will begin serving the suspension Friday, when goaltender Nick Boucher will make his return after missing six weeks with hand injuries. Boucher will be forced into heavy action right away.

"I'm not surprised by the punishment," Komets general manager David Franke said. "It's unfortunate because we just have Boucher coming back and now he'll have to play at least seven games in a row. It's unfortunate timing."

The Komets plan to use Parris Duffus, a member of the Fort Wayne Fire Department, as an emergency backup at least through this weekend.

"Tim has to realize in the future that he can't do stuff like that," Franke said. "You can't let your emotions get the best of you like that."

Haun lost his cool toward the end of a 2-0 loss to the Icehawks, who repeatedly crashed the net. After he swing at Patrosso, a melee was set off that saw Haun fight Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling.

Haun couldn't be reached for comment.
