The mother of a teen impregnated by a 41-year-old man was sentenced Monday in Allen Superior Court, after she admitted to neglecting her daughter in connection with the case.

The 38-year-old woman pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony, in November, admitting that she knew her daughter and David Morgan were having a sexual relationship. Morgan is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for sexual misconduct with a minor.

The woman, who is not being identified by The Journal Gazette to avoid identifying the teen, was sentenced to three years in prison, but Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck suspended the sentence and ordered her to spend three years on probation.

In a letter written to the court, the teen said she had been molested by Morgan for the first time when she was 12. The girl wrote that she hated her mother because the woman knew the abuse was taking place for years. According to the letter, the girl said her mother sent her own urine to school with her daughter so a pregnancy test requested by school counselors would come back negative.

Mugger admits role in theft of $860

A 22-year-old Fort Wayne man admitted to robbing another man after the victim withdrew money from a credit union in October.

Beren A. Culver, of the 300 block of West Superior Street, pleaded guilty Monday in Allen Superior Court to a single charge of robbery, a Class B felony.

According to court documents, the victim was leaving a credit union after he withdrew $860. As he walked, he was placing the money in different pockets. After running a few errands, the man was walking home when he was approached by Culver and an unknown person.

The unknown man got behind the victim, put his arms around his neck and choked him into unconsciousness. The two made off with the money. When arrested, Culver admitted to splitting the money with two other men and spending most of the money at a local strip club, according to court documents.

He faces between six and 20 years in prison when he is sentenced in January.
