I am just wondering if it might be time to stop seeding the SAC tournament.

Sure, it adds a lot of debate to the annual holiday basketball tournament but it is doesn't really give an indication of how the teams are playing at the time of the tournament.

The voting by the league's 20 coaches, boys and girls, were due by Dec. 7. The seeding and pairings are released eight days later. And by the time the tourney is played Dec. 28 to 30 (at Wayne), teams are totally different.

Take the boys, for instance. I can see the top three seeds, Luers at No. 1, Harding at No. 2 and South Side at No. 3.

But Northrop should be the No. 4 seed and not No. 6. The Bruins are unbeaten, including two league games, and have the two best freshman twins around these parts since maybe the Ross twins at Northfield almost 20 years ago.

And Snider at No. 9 and Wayne at No. 10 are totally underrating those two teams. I know you have to put someone there, but it is a slap in the face to a Panther program that finished second in the state last year in Class 4A.

The girls seeds are OK, except South Side is way too low at No. 5 and Luers is too high at No. 2.

The Archers beat the Knights by 20 points last Friday. I would have put the Knights around No. 4, and the Archers at No. 3 behind Elmhurst (which is the No. 1 seed already by the coaches) and Concordia at No. 2 (which the Cadets are No. 3).

It's an inexact science for sure, so maybe that's why they should stop seeding the tourney and go with a blind draw.

Then maybe we could have had the Luers-South Side rematch on the boys side in the first round instead of making me wait until the finals.
