Notre Dame appears to have lost a recruit

Notre Dame reportedly lost its first recruit since Brian Kelly took over as coach.

Cornerback Toney Hurd Jr. de-committed from the Irish, according to reports on Rivals.com sites.

IrishIllustarted.com reported that Hurd, a 5-foot-9, 184-pounder from Missouri City, Texas, told its partner site for Texas A&M that the three-star recruit rescinded his oral commitment.

The South Bend Tribune reported Hurd has not changed his mind as of Thursday, but both Web sites reported that Hurd has not been in contact with Kelly.

The Journal Gazette's Assistant Sports Editor Tony Krausz covers The University of Notre Dame. Krausz, a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a native of St. Louis, has been assistant sports editor since October 2005. Prior to joining the JG, he worked at two papers in Mississippi covering high school and college athletics.
