Football coach Brian Kelly spoke to the crowd at halftime of Notre Dame's basketball game against UCLA. He was introduced by athletic director Jack Swarbrick.
Kelly drew a long, loud ovation from the crowd with the student section bowing to the coach they hope will bring the Irish back to prominence.
After Kelly asked about a few traditions the students do during football games, standing for the whole game and doing pushups for every point scored, he gave the students a warning.
"Use holiday break to get in shape because you are going to be doing a lot of pushups," Kelly told the student section.
Kelly said it was a dream to be on the basketball floor addressing the crowd, but he also made a point that he also has a job to do.
He said the program would develop players, graduated players and win championships.
And he made one promise about the football team.
"We will play hard for four quarters," Kelly said.
