Indianapolis expansion foiled?

I know there are many IHL insiders, and fans, who are counting on the league expanding into Indianapolis soon.

As if we haven't been hearing that for years.

Well, it seems this news release would squash that for another year:

The Indiana Ice announced today that they have signed an extension offered by the Indiana State Fairgrounds through the 2010-2011 season.

The current USHL franchise is in their sixth season and has grown to be one of the premier USHL franchises since 2004. The Ice has made the playoffs in the first five years and reached their goal of the Clark Cup last year defeating the Fargo Force in four games.

"We hope to continue our winning ways now and in the future here at Pepsi Coliseum." said Indiana Ice President & CEO Paul Skjodt. "We are encouraged with the progress our organization has made especially over the last two years, while in a very difficult economic climate for all. The USHL and our Indiana Ice staff have built a product and event that every family in this state can enjoy at a very affordable price point. Our loyal fans and partners have stuck with us and we hope to continue to build the brand for many years to come in this city and around the state."
