Officer breaks ankle during chase

EVANSVILLE – Police said an Evansville officer broke his ankle while chasing a man who fled from a traffic stop.

Officer Paul Jacobs suffered the injury Tuesday afternoon but was still able to catch the man. Sgt. Vernon Lutz told the Evansville Courier & Press that Jacobs caught up with the man as he was climbing a fence, which is when the officer was hurt.

Lutz said the Mount Vernon man told officers he ran because he was wanted on arrest warrants and had just bought methamphetamine. He also was jailed on a felony charge of resisting law enforcement resulting in the injury of an officer.
