The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a lake effect snow advisory for Kosciusko County and northwest Indiana.
It said a band of lake effect snow will persist through Tuesday morning, with an additional 2 to 4 inches in eastern Berrien and western Cass counties in Michigan as well as eastern St. Joseph and western Elkhart counties in Indiana.
Totals of 1 to 3 inches of snow are possible over Marshall and Kosciusko counties.
Most of the snow is expected to fall before noon and driving could be hazardous, the weather service said. More heavy snow is forecast for Thursday and Friday.
Patchy freezing drizzle is also predicted today for most of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
The hazardous weather outlook said drivers should be aware that some roads may have thin coating of ice. This icing, combined with snowfall, may cause extremely areas.
The freezing drizzle is expected to gradually come to an end early this afternoon.
Counties included in the hazardous weather outlook include:
- Indiana – Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells, Whitley, LaPorte, Elkhart, Starke, Pulaski, Marshall, Fulton, White, Cass, Miami, Grant, Blackford, Jay and St. Joseph.
- Ohio – Williams, Fulton, Defiance, Henry, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Allen.
- Michigan – Branch and Hillsdale.
