Bishop Luers senior Deshaun Thomas is getting into some rarified air when it comes to Indiana high school basketball lore.
Thomas has 2,543 career points, good for No. 5 on the all-time boys scoring list.
Next up is Rick Mount from Lebanon (2,595), who is maybe regarded as the best shooter in the state's history.
After Mount is Brody Boyd from Union (2,632) for No. 3, and then Marion Pierce from Lewisville (3,019) at No. 2 and Damon Bailey (3,134) at No. 1.
Thomas will get to the third spot relatively quickly with his 36.1 points per game average.
But it might take him awhile for Pierce and ultimately Bailey.
At his current pace, Thomas would break Bailey's record around the sectional championship game March 6. That does depend on the sectional draw and whether he keeps scoring at the same rate.
If March 6 sounds familiar to some basketball fans, that's because on that day the IHSAA girls basketball state finals will be at Memorial Coliseum.
