Check web site for state's road conditions, police say

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana law enforcement officials are urging the public to use the Internet, a telephone service or local broadcast media to check on winter road conditions.

With varying amounts of snow forecast for today, Indiana State Police are asking the public not to call police departments or other public safety agencies to ask about road conditions.

Police said they need to keep their telephone lines open for emergency calls.

Instead, people should call 1-800-261-7623 or visit www.TrafficWise.IN.gov to check on road conditions.

Trafficwise's Web site has links to sites providing traffic speed estimates and images from more than 80 traffic cameras in urban areas of northwest, central and south central Indiana.

State police said local television and radio stations are another good source for weather and road information.
