Turnovers burn IPFW on road

Despite 13 points from junior guard Zach Plackemeier, the IPFW men’s basketball team lost on the road, 75-62, to Centenary on Thursday night. Plackemeier made 5 of 9 shots for IPFW (6-8).

The Mastodons’ Deilvez Yearby, a senior forward, scored 12 points. Sophomore John Peckinpaugh added 10.

Centenary (6-9) was paced by sophomore Maxx Nakwaasah, who scored a career-best 22 points off the bench. Centenary got 23 points off 18 IPFW turnovers.

SAINT FRANCIS 81, GOSHEN 74: DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis’ 28 points led the host Cougars (15-3).

BETHEL 98, HUNTINGTON 91: Ryne Lightfoot scored 27 points to lead visiting Bethel (14-2) past Huntington (12-5).

GRACE 73, TAYLOR 65: Six players scored in double figures as Grace (13-5) topped host Taylor (10-9).

Women

No. 1 CONNECTICUT 83, CINCINNATI 51: Maya Moore scored 25 points to propel the host Huskies.

No. 4 TENNESSEE 79, SOUTH CAROLINA 62: Angie Bjorklund scored 23 points to help the host Volunteers (13-1) open their SEC schedule with a victory.

No. 8 GEORGIA 61, KENTUCKY 60, OT: Jasmine James hit a three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining to send the host Bulldogs to a team-record 15-0 start.

No. 9 DUKE 67, CLEMSON 41: Jasmine Thomas and Joy Cheek scored 15 points apiece to pace the visiting Blue Devils (13-2, 1-0 ACC).

No. 11 LSU 65, ARKANSAS 38: Allison Hightower had 13 points to help the Tigers (13-1, 2-0 SEC) in Fayetteville, Ark.

No. 13 FLORIDA STATE 68, No. 21 VIRGINIA 50: Freshman Chasity Clayton scored a career high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to energize the host Seminoles (14-2).

No. 18 WIS.-GREEN BAY 68, WRIGHT STATE 41: Julie Wojta was 10 for 10 from the field and scored 21 points to spur the host Phoenix (14-0, 3-0 Horizon League).

WISCONSIN 64, PURDUE 51: The Boilermakers’ 13-game winning streak against Wisconsin came to and end on the road. Brittany Rayburn scored 13 points for Purdue (7-8).

INDIANA 50, ILLINOIS 48: Jori Davis’ 18 points – she made 5 of 12 shots and 8 of 10 free throws – to lead the Hoosiers (9-6) at home.

SAINT FRANCIS 92, GOSHEN 63: Kayla Mullins had 16 points and Bessie Jenkins added 15 for the Cougars (9-8) on the road.

GRACE 71, TAYLOR 66: Autumn Heflin’s 15 points paced Grace at home. Taylor’s Morgan McLeish scored 13.

HUNTINGTON at BETHEL, ppd.: The game was postponed until Jan. 22 at 6 p.m.
