  • K's need a power surge
The Komets power play has shown some signs of life lately, but it still must be better if they want to defeat Reading in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, which begin Thursday.

Syroczynski returning

Matt Syroczynski

The Komets are on a 5-0-1 surge, playing their best hockey of the season so far, and their lineup is about to get a huge boost.

Matt Syroczynski has been released by Norfolk of the American Hockey League and will rejoin the Komets on Tuesday, Fort Wayne coach Al Sims said.

Syroczynski, the Komets' top-line left wing, has five goals and eight points in five games this season. With Norfolk, he had six goals and 10 points in 30 games.

The Komets will also get forward Mitch Woods back Tuesday. He last played for the team in 2007-08 and is coming out of retirement. He needs to get back into shape, though, and probably won't be in the lineup for a couple of weeks.

To make room for Syroczynski, the Komets will have to release someone before Friday's game against Flint.
