Showtime says it will be looking for laughs from cancer, of all things, in a new series starring Laura Linney.
Showtime announced that The Big C will begin shooting 13 episodes this spring for a fall debut.
Its billed as a dark comedy and centers on Linney as a reserved suburban wife and mother whose cancer diagnosis rocks her life, in some ways for the better. Oliver Platt plays her immature but well-meaning husband.
Linney has landed Oscar nominations for Kinsey, You Can Count on Me and The Savages.
She won an Emmy for her TV role as Abigail Adams in the HBO miniseries John Adams.
Police say self-inflicted stab wounds put Howard Sterns sidekick, Artie Lange, in a New Jersey hospital.
Hoboken Police Detective Mark Competello says Langes mother found him on the floor of his waterfront home Jan. 2.
Competello says the comedian, 42, was unconscious but breathing after stabbing himself with a 13-inch kitchen knife.
Lange was taken to Jersey City Medical Center. Competello says doctors cleaned nine abdominal knife wounds and operated. He says Lange has been released.
Stern has spoken of the suicide attempt and said his thoughts are with Langes mother and sister.
