P.C. Drouin had a goal and two assists to lead the Komets past host Dayton 3-0 in front of 917 fans on Sunday.
Drouin assisted on goals by Brad MacMillan in the first period and Leo Thomas in the second as the Komets (20-11-2) opened a 2-0 advantage.
Drouin’s third-period goal clinched the win for Fort Wayne.
Thomas, Konstantin Shafranov and Frankie DeAngelis also picked up assists for the Komets, who have won three straight and four of five overall.
The Komets won despite being outshot by the Gems (15-16-1) 30-27. Goalie Tim Haun stopped all 30 shots.
Fort Wayne is now 4-2 against Dayton this season.
Neither team fared well on power plays, combining for a 0 for 11 performance with Dayton at 0 for 7 and Fort Wayne 0 for 4.
The Komets remain seven points back of second-place Muskegon, which beat Flint 8-0 on Sunday. Muskegon (23-9-3) lost to the Komets 4-2 Saturday.
Colin Chaulk’s seven-game point-scoring streak was snapped.
Fort Wayne improved to 9-8-1 on the road.
