Luers honoring 1st girls state champion

Bishop Luers will honor its first girls basketball state champion Saturday at halftime and after the Knights' boys basketball game at home against Blackhawk Christian.

The Knights, led by current Saint Francis coach Gary Andrews, won the Class 2A state championship in 1999.

Andrews would lead the Knights to two more consecutive 2A titles, while Teri Rosinski coached Luers to a 3A title in 2002 for four straight state championships.

Only Heritage Christian (2A, 2006-09) has won as many consecutive girls basketball state titles.

Luers also won a 3A title again in 2006 for a state-most five state championships.
