Why The Jets Will Not Win, Part 1

... in which the Blob, in honor of the Colts-Jets AFC championship game, will present one reason per day why the Jets (immortalized by Dan Jenkins in "Semi-Tough" as "the dog-ass Jets") are going to be served up like a tasty entree by Peyton 'n' them.

Today's reason: Because Peyton Manning is not Philip Rivers and Matt Stover is not Nate Kaeding.

Back in week 15, before the Colts pulled their starters and let the DAJs off the mat, Manning was 14 of 21 for 192 yards with no interceptions and no sacks. In other words, he was pretty much doing whatever he wanted.

And Stover?

Since taking over for the injured Adam Vinatieri, Stover has made 11 of 13 field goals. He's 11 of 12 from 49 yards in. Last week he smoothly knocked home both of his attempts.

And, yes, Kaeding was just as accurate if not more so before Sunday, when he missed three attempts. But that only tilt the odds even more heavily in the Colts favor. After all, the likelihood of two extremely accurate kickers losing their form in back-to-back games is ... well, too close to zero to figure the differerence.
