'American Idol' alum Danny Gokey puts up country song as first single

But the question is, why?

I was excited to find out that Danny Gokey is looking to release his debut album in March.

But then I heard his first single, "My Best Days Are Ahead of Me."

Listen for yourself at www.dannygokey.com.

Maybe it's because the themed shows didn't allow for it, but Gokey didn't sing many country songs last season on "American Idol." I never really pictured him making a career in country. And I don't like it.

Not only is the genre not my favorite choice, but I'm not fond of the cornball lyrics:

Life hasn't always been a party but mostly it's been good/

There's only one or two things that I'd change if I could /

I don't get lost in the past or get stuck in some sad memory/

My best days are ahead of me

I don't want to hear Danny singing about getting old. I want to hear Danny singing about luuuuuuuuurve. Not love, but luuuuuuuuurve. (That's right, 9 u's and an r.)

Where's the "Come Rain or Come Shine" Danny Gokey? (That performance still touches me deeply.)

Where's the "You Are So Beautiful" Danny Gokey?

Where's the "Stand By Me" Danny Gokey?

Where's the "Endless Love" Danny Gokey?

Even the "September" Danny Gokey?

Maybe it's a long shot, but I hope his album will have one flimsy country song and a boatload of big luuuuuuuuurve ballads. Otherwise, I doubt I'll be buying it. Still, good luck, Danny!
