DeKalb scooter crash leaves man in serious condition

A 41-year-old man was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious condition after he crashed his motor scooter in rural DeKalb County Saturday evening.

Officers were called to DeKalb County Road 19 south of Pleasant Street about 6:45 p.m. and found Kent Treech, of Corunna, sitting in the roadway, police said.

Treech said he had no recollection of what happened immediately before the crash, but police believe he lost control of his Honda Ruckus scooter and flipped it. The motorbike slid more than 30 feet and Treech was thrown to the pavement.

Treech was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with a fractured nasal cavity and bruises to his face. He was listed in serious condition Saturday.
