RELATED STORIES

Los Angeles added 23 contestants to the Hollywood round on Tuesday night's episode of "American Idol." Here's a roundup of what we thought:

Favorite advancing contestant:

  • Andrew Garcia. I liked his style and choice of song. Even though I wonder about the soul singer's versatility in the later rounds, he definitely knocked his audition out of the park. — Anthony
  • Having seen the leaked Top 24 list, I know that two of the contestants supposedly are on it. However, I was not blown away by them. I actually liked worship pastor Jim Ranger. — Angie
  • Well, if there had been even one advancing contestant that hadn't made me want to barf blood, I would be writing about them right now. Instead, I spent an hour watching a douche bag parade and came away with nothing but a desire to read books about the decline of Western civilization. Nevertheless, I guess I'll go with Mary, the woman who was dressed like a chimney sweep and obviously applies her eye makeup with a garden rake. — Emma
  • Andrew Garcia had the kind of vignette that I didn't want to puke at. His story about his gang member parents and then seeing his dad cry with pride seemed genuine. His voice sure was genuine. Was it me or could he be this year's Danny Gokey, glasses and all? — Ryan

Should any contestant's result have been different?

  • Despite Jason Greene being absolutely horrifying, I would have liked to had the comedic relief for part of Hollywood. — Angie
  • Jason Greene had everything I love in a performer. He looked like a chick from a 1970s After-School Special, he "believes in magic" and watching him offer to introduce Simon to the sexy side of man-on-man ... well, it was like looking in a mirror. — Emma
  • Punk chick Mary Powers was not that good. She had a raspy, different voice, but it wasn't good. Hey Mary, let me introduce you to Alison Iraheta and Amanda Overmyer. Actually, you are worse than they ever were. — Ryan
  • Austin "You Never Know What You'll Catch" Fullmer should have gotten through. But that's what he gets. When he danced during the audition, technically his pants were on the ground. — Anthony

Highlight of the night:

  • Katy and Kara! Cat fight! — Emma
  • Katy Perry saying "I'll have to throw my Coke in your face." Whatever elicited that, I'm sure Kara deserved it. — Angie
  • I liked Chris Golightly, the ringer for Anderson Varejao of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He kicked "Stand by Me" 's butt. — Anthony
  • My TiVO. This horrid season of "Idol" makes me appreciate it more and more with every stupid intro, stupid vignette and stupid quick highlight reel I am able to quickly flip past. — Ryan

Lowlight of the night:

  • Avril Lavigne stinks. From her stupid devil-horn sweat jacket to her flippant criticism, this hack had no business sitting where Paula used to sit. She is an overproduced piece of pop garbage herself who can't really carry a note without sound board help, so who is she kidding? — Ryan
  • Jason Greene made EVERYONE feel dirty with his "I Touch Myself" audition and post-singing antics. — Anthony
  • Finding out that Ryan wears a tie when he's on the radio. So .. wait, Ryan ... wait, wait... let me understand this ... You wear a tie when you're on the radio and no one can see you, and then, before the cameras roll, you slip into a T-shirt that says something like "William Wants A Doll?" — Emma
  • The rest of the show. — Angie

Random thoughts:

  • L.A. is filled with delusional people who think they can sing, but don't have the sense to move to Orlando and get a gig as the Doc Brown walkabout character at Universal Studios. — Emma
  • I really wish we could somehow get the karate sandwich-maker dude and spastic "no one as sexual as me" singer Austin Fullmer together and get them their own show. I think they would be great in a buddy cop show or maybe in some sort of road trip movie. — Ryan
  • OK, if that one girl was the girl who cried when Sanjaya sang, I am a little bit upset that I did not get to see her audition. She's like an "Idol" legend. — Angie
  • I felt bad for A.J. Mendoza, the Adam Lambert wannabe, because he really, really thought he was awesome. — Anthony

A.J. Mendoza sang like half his face was paralyzed with Bells Palsy.
