Komets waive Varone

To make room for forward Mitch Woods, who will be back in the lineup Friday against the Quad City Mallards, the Komets waived center Rick Varone.

Varone had 23 goals and 55 points in 75 games last season, making the IHL's All-Rookie Team and sharing the team's Rookie of the Year Award with Sean O'Connor.

But this season, Varone had only one goal and six points in 23 games.

General manager David Franke couldn't be reached for comment.
