•Try to outpick Steve Penhollow’s Oscar guesses for a chance to win free movie tickets for a year. Details of the contest and the Oscar ballot will appear in an ad in Weekender on Fridays and in Encore on Sundays through March 5.

The Oscar nominees were announced Tuesday.

If you are anything like me (a movie lover who is too busy to see as many movies as he’d like), this annual event always triggers a mad scramble to watch as many films in a month’s time as a person who is not Roger Ebert is capable of watching.

Some of the nominees have come to Fort Wayne and departed (“An Education” and “Nine”), and some never came to Fort Wayne at all (“The Last Station” and “The White Ribbon”).

But many are still around in various forms.

Here is a guide for constructing your extreme Oscar strategy before the March 7 awards.

Here are some nominees that aren’t playing in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio theaters, but you can watch them later on DVD or Blu-ray – many a little late for the announcement of the winners.

“An Education” – It is scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in April. It is playing in Indianapolis at Landmark Keystone Art.

“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” – Scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in April

“Invictus” – Scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in June

“The Last Station” – Starting at Cinema Center on Feb. 26; scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in June

“The Messenger” – Starting at Cinema Center on Feb. 19; scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in June

“Nine” – Scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in May

“The Secret of Kells” – A home-video release date has not been determined.

“The White Ribbon” – Scheduled to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in April
