Homemade centerpieces add color to dinner table

Here are some ideas to help handle the various essentials of home living.

When planning a dinner party, you want the table to be just right. It needs to look inviting and be well appointed, but because accessories can be expensive, we need an idea that is both attractive and economical.

How about a homemade yet professional-looking centerpiece? Do you happen to have herbs growing on your kitchen windowsill? Place those herbs in matching containers and set them in the center of the table. The containers can be pots, baskets, glass bowls or any other creative, coordinated containers.

As always, have an odd number of decorations on the table, such as one large piece or three or five smaller sets.

You don’t have herbs growing in your kitchen? No problem. Buy a large bunch of radishes and place them in a glass bowl with water. Try three bunches and place in matching containers on the table. Now you have decoration with color. For more ideas, go to www.au-ciel.com.

As hygiene-conscious folks, we all tend to wash or dry-clean our clothes often. But the constant washing and dry-cleaning tends to break down the fabrics and deteriorates them more quickly than we can afford to replace them. And even if we can afford to replace them, there are those favorites that we just don’t want to part with.

There is a product that can help. It is called the FRESHhanger. According to the company’s description, it is a cover that fits on any standard clothes hanger and uses activated carbon technology to rid clothes of damaging or odor-causing substances.

The carbon technology is said to also help keep clothes from fading while in the closet as it absorbs chemical odors, smoke, dampness and chlorine residue. This hanger product is fragrance-free, so it doesn’t just mask the odors but is said to eliminate them. For information, go to www.freshhanger.com.

Here’s another interesting idea. Swap the legs on your furniture for Habit Legs.

These decorative legs are certainly eye-catching, featuring patterns like red-and-white check, transparent glass, glossy enamel teal, jewel-like crystal, metallic bamboo and leather-covered wood. Check out some of the items at www.houseofhabit.com.
