Jones pacing IU's offense

Verdell Jones III scored a career-high 28 points in Sunday's 78-61 loss at Northwestern. Jones has scored at least 22 points in each of Indiana's last three games. He is averaging 14.9 points per game, 18.6 points in conference contests.

"He's continued to improve at a very high rate on all sides. The last (three) games, he's not only our leading scorer, but he's our leading assist guy," IU coach Tom Crean said. "And he's doing a very good job of moving the ball, finding people. When he has the ball in his hands, something good happens in the sense of creating for somebody else or getting to the rim or making a shot. That's very important for us.

"We have to continue to find more ways to utilize that and at the same time have more guys play the same way. That's why we go to our bench so much. The hook is going to have to get a little faster with some of our other guards right now of when the ball is not moving and kicked out the way it needs to be. Verdell is doing such a good job of that. He's improving by leaps and bounds in the sense of all-around play. He's a direct result of the way that he practices and the way he has a sense of urgency for improving."
