Maybe someday, there will be a new island formed just off the coast of Hawaii.The Steuben County commissioners are looking at several options for the Steuben County Park that could see the fairgrounds moved, buildings renovated, a conference center built and the size of the park doubled.
In any event, they want to know what Steuben County residents would like to see done with the 98-acre park and fairgrounds on Crooked Lake.
County commissioners and County Council members will listen to the public at a meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the multipurpose room of the Steuben Community Center, 317 S. Wayne St. in Angola.
“We want to find out what the needs are to get everyone on board with the program,” Commissioner F. Mayo Sanders said.
The county has hired the Troyer Group for $51,000 to conduct a feasibility study to look at the cost and practicality of the many options the county is entertaining.
Among those options are:
•Buying an additional 95 acres on the southwest side of the park.
•Building a conference center.
•Moving the fairgrounds to a more level area of the park, which would improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
•Renovating and repairing several fair buildings.
•Making the park accessible and usable year-round.
