The Criminal Investigation Division of the Indiana State Police in Fort Wayne issued a written statement Monday about Friday's arrest of Dawn M. Schwartzengraber, 37, on a charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
Detective Harry Nix investigated allegations that Schwartzengraber, a teacher at Camden-Frontier High School in Camden, Mich., engaged in inappropriate conduct with a student who is now 17.
Schwartzengraber stands accused of illegal acts with the student during the last two years, state police said. The written statement said the acts are believed to have taken place at Schwartzengraber's home in Angola as well as on roadways in Indiana and Michigan.
Schwartzengraber had been held on the felony charge in the Steuben County Jail and was released on bond.
State police were assisted by Detective Sgt. C.J. Gochanour of the Michigan State Police, Jonesville Post.
According to the district's Web site, Schwartzengraber taught eighth-grade U.S. history as well as high school history, government economics and psychology.
The only person authorized to comment on the district's behalf, Superintendent Mary Moore, was not in the office Monday, according to an assistant in its administrative offices.
