Driver faces charge for passenger injury

A Fort Wayne man faces formal charges after driving drunk and crashing his vehicle causing serious injury to a passenger, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.

Angelo Blackmon, 35, of the 2000 block of Drexel Avenue, is charged with criminal recklessness, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and false reporting of a crime. He had not been arrested Monday night.

Police say Blackmon was driving a car Oct. 30 and crashed into a utility pole, then sideswiped a tree and crashed into a fence in the parking lot of Rea Magnet Wire Co., 3600 E. Pontiac St.

A passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured after being ejected from the car.

That passenger had to have his leg reconstructed and several skin grafts. Police say Blackmon had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent – almost three times the legal limit.
