Woman accused of lying to get aid

A Fort Wayne woman faces formal charges after she lied about the number of children living with her to get government aid, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.

Gertrude Williams, 45, of the 1900 block of Greentree Court, is charged with one count each of welfare fraud and Medicare fraud. She had not been arrested Monday.

Police say Williams claimed she had five children living with her when she obtained public assistance. After an investigation, it was determined only four children were living with Williams, as her daughter was living in California, records state. Williams is accused of fraudulently obtaining $2,377 in food stamps and $1,591 in Medicaid.
