The name of a man critically wounded during a botched robbery Saturday night was released Monday by Fort Wayne police.

Marteques L. Black, 20, of Fort Wayne, was shot about 10:30 p.m. Saturday while in a car near Bowser Park at Fisher and Reed streets, police said.

Police said Black, along with a woman in his car, was approached by a man who tried to rob them. The robber pulled a handgun and shot Black. The woman was not injured. Black was listed in critical condition Sunday. An update on his condition was not available Monday.

Teacher accused of sexual misconduct

An Angola woman was arrested Friday, accused of a sex crime involving a boy who was a student at the Michigan school where she teaches, according to Indiana State Police.

Dawn Schwartzengraber, 37, faces one count of sexual misconduct with a minor. She was booked into the Steuben County Jail and has posted bond.

Police say Schwartzengraber, a teacher at Camden-Frontier High School, in Camden, Mich., engaged in sexual conduct with a now 17-year-old student at the school. The conduct started when he was 15, police said. The sex acts are alleged to have occurred at Schwartzengraber’s home and on roads in Indiana and Michigan.

Woman accused of lying to get aid

A Fort Wayne woman faces formal charges after she lied about the number of children living with her to get government aid, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.

Gertrude Williams, 45, of the 1900 block of Greentree Court, is charged with one count each of welfare fraud and Medicare fraud. She had not been arrested Monday.

Police say Williams claimed she had five children living with her when she obtained public assistance. After an investigation, it was determined only four children were living with Williams, as her daughter was living in California, records state. Williams is accused of fraudulently obtaining $2,377 in food stamps and $1,591 in Medicaid.

Driver faces charge for passenger injury

A Fort Wayne man faces formal charges after driving drunk and crashing his vehicle causing serious injury to a passenger, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.

Angelo Blackmon, 35, of the 2000 block of Drexel Avenue, is charged with criminal recklessness, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and false reporting of a crime. He had not been arrested Monday night.

Police say Blackmon was driving a car Oct. 30 and crashed into a utility pole, then sideswiped a tree and crashed into a fence in the parking lot of Rea Magnet Wire Co., 3600 E. Pontiac St.

A passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured after being ejected from the car.

That passenger had to have his leg reconstructed and several skin grafts. Police say Blackmon had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 percent – almost three times the legal limit.

Man, 50, faces count of sexual battery

A Fort Wayne man faces a sex crime charge for fondling a teenage girl, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.

Humberto Salazar, 50, of the 700 block of Taylor Street, is charged with one count of sexual battery. He was being held without bail on unrelated charges.

Police say Salazar touched a 16-year-old girl in a sexual manner in June. Salazar touched the girl even though she tried to get away, documents state.

Charge filed in dollar store robbery

A Fort Wayne man has been charged in connection to a robbery at a Family Dollar store last month, according to Allen Superior Court records filed Monday.

Tony Martin, 45, of the 200 block of Masterson Avenue, faces one formal count of robbery and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Police say Martin is responsible for the Jan. 26 robbery of the store at 2011 Broadway. Martin fled with $65, court records state.
