VALPARAISO – Valparaiso officials say the northwestern Indiana city is pushing ahead with plans to turn off many of its streetlights in a cost-saving move.
City Projects Manager Don McGinley says that the electricity costs have gone down about one-third on the first section where every other streetlight has been shut off after midnight.
He says the city hasn't received complaints about the changes. Work also continues on installing low-energy LED bulbs in city streetlights.
Muncie and Merrillville are among the other Indiana communities also turning off streetlights as officials work to make budget cuts.
