Unlike Denali, I was not bred for this weather

Kim and Denali

The picture said it all.

After the 4-mile run, I looked bewildered. I was cold, wet and my eyelashes were covered in ice crystals as were my eyebrows. I looked tired. My body struggled to find rhythm on the sometimes slick road and I felt like I was running in sand.

I wanted a nap.

Denali wanted more.

He had shaken off the snow that dusted his top coat of fur and looked ecstatic. It must not have taken much energy to (literally) prance next to me for the four miles and occasionally gaze up at me with an expression that said, "This is the MOST AWESOME THING EVER."

Of course, he was bred to think snow and frigid conditions are the most awesome thing ever. He was also bred to run great distances in the snow and frigid conditions and enjoy it.

I was bred to think cooling off with a Cosmo next to the pool is the most awesome thing ever.

Regardless, we'll be out again tomorrow for another four miles and I'll take my pleasure in his happiness.
