The IPFW mens volleyball team snapped a two-match losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Grand Canyon on Friday at the Gates Center.
The Mastodons (4-5, 1-3 MIVA) had wins of 30-21, 30-28 and 30-26 over the Antelopes (5-9, 0-4).
Darryl Shank paced IPFWs attack with 17 kills, and Elon Fyfield had nine. Dan Mader recorded 34 assists.

Two-time National League Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum and the Giants reached preliminary agreement on a $23 million, two-year contract, avoiding arbitration. Outfielder Corey Hart beat the Brewers in salary arbitration, winning a raise from $3.25 million to $4.8 million. Frank Thomas announced his retirement after 19 seasons in which he hit 521 homers and won two American League MVP awards with the White Sox. The Orioles and right-hander Jeremy Guthrie agreed on a one-year contract to avoid arbitration.

College notes
Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun said he will not commit to coaching beyond this season. His 3 1/2 -week medical leave of absence ended Friday. Iowa coach Todd Lickliter says sophomore guard Anthony Tucker has been released from his scholarship. Former Oklahoma State basketball coach Sean Sutton has been arrested in Stillwater, Okla., and accused of attempting to illegally obtain prescription painkillers from out of state.

Commissioner Roger Goodell has been given a new five-year contract running until March 2015. Linebacker Joey Porter was released by the Dolphins. Receiver Matt Jones agreed to a one-year deal with the Bengals, who also have shown an interest in cornerback Adam Pacman Jones. The Steelers plan to follow a self-imposed salary cap in 2010 and wont take advantage of the lack of a collective bargaining agreement to add more quality free agents than usual.

He is at 10-under 132 with defending champion Dustin Johnson, Alex Cejka, Bryce Molder and Matt Jones. The 64-man field at the Match Play Championship does not include Tiger Woods, who did not meet the deadline Friday for entering. The first round of the Champions Tours ACE Group Classic in Naples, Fla. was suspended by high winds.

Blackhawks deal Barker for pair
The Chicago Blackhawks have traded defenseman Cam Barker to the Minnesota Wild for defensemen Kim Johnsson and Nick Leddy. Johnsson has a plus-three rating and led Minnesota with an average ice time of 23 minutes, 46 seconds. Leddy, 18, was the 16th selection in the 2009 draft by the Wild and is a freshman at the University of Minnesota.

Dixon lands atop Top Fuel division
Larry Dixon grabbed the lead in the Top Fuel division Friday during the second day of qualifying at the season-opening NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Dixon claimed the provisional pole in Top Fuel with a 3.795-second pass at 317.79 mph. Sunday will be the 50th running of the Winternationals.
