Two Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers suffered non-life-threatening injuries after their patrol car went off the road and flipped over several times Sunday morning.
Trooper Jason M. Urbina, 25, was driving the 2009 Crown Victoria with trooper Matthew E. Uran, 32, in the passenger seat when they saw a vehicle speeding north on U.S. 127 in Williams County – about three miles from West Unity – about 12:30 a.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Before the troopers could catch up to the speeder, the patrol car left the right side of the road and overturned several times before coming to rest on its wheels, the highway patrol said.
Urbina was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, the highway patrol said. Uran was flown to the University of Toledo Medical Center and then transferred to another Toledo hospital, where his condition was listed as stable with non-life-threatening injuries.
He was in fair condition Sunday night, the patrol said.
Body on East State; foul play doubted
Fort Wayne police were investigating the death of a man found outside in the 1300 block of East State Boulevard on Sunday morning.
So far, nothing was leading investigators to believe foul play was involved, said officer Roy Sutphin, a police spokesman. A cause of death had not been ruled as of Sunday night and the mans identity has not been released.
Sutphin did say the man may have been in his late 20s.
2 burned in van fire; meth-making likely
Two people suffered burns in a van fire that may have been caused by a failed attempt at making methamphetamines Sunday, according to the DeKalb County Sheriffs Department.
Sheriffs deputies were called to the area of County Road 56 east of County Road 31 at 3:23 p.m. and found a 2000 Oldsmobile minivan in flames. Witnesses at the scene said two people ran from the van when it caught fire.
A 31-year-old man was found nearby with burns to his hands and face, according to the sheriffs department. The owner of the van, a 28-year-old woman, was found hours later in Churubusco with burns to her legs. Both are recovering in a Fort Wayne hospital and neither has been charged with a crime.
The cause of the fire is believed to be the failure of a reaction vessel used in manufacturing methamphetamines, according to a statement from the sheriffs department. Both people suspected of being in the van will be questioned when released from the hospital.
