Canterbury jumps to early lead for sectional crown

Canterbury coach Scott Kreiger’s 200th victory turned out to be a memorable one, as well as an easy one.

His Cavaliers rolled to a 15-point first quarter lead and poured it on from there, finishing with an 87-43 win over Bethany Christian to win the girls sectional championship at Hamilton on Monday.

Senior Tabitha Gerardot led the charge with 22 points, including 14 in the first half. Freshman Bailey Farley added 13 points, Madison Moyle had 12 and Cassie Kreiger had 10.

BISHOP LUERS 65, ADAMS CENTRAL 24: Bishop Luers led from beginning to end in its dominating sectional championship victory at Woodlan.

The Knights jumped out to a 21-4 lead after the first quarter and padded the lead to 38-11 at half.

Ten players scored for the Knights, led by Brierra Young’s 17 on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor. Brooke Ridley had 13 points and Miracle Woods had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

SOUTH SIDE 69, HUNTINGTON NORTH 55: Thanks to 50 percent shooting from the floor (28-of-56), South Side held off a 21-12 free throw discrepancy and a 36-26 rebounding disadvantage to win the Jay County Sectional over Huntington North. Jamesha Ridley led the Archers with 14 points, followed the 12 from Ariana Simmons, who was 6 of 6 from the floor, and 11 from Brittany Johnson. Liesl Davenport led the Vikings with 23 points.

GARRETT 52, FREMONT 37: Heather House scored 20 points and Megan Getts added 16 in Garrett’s victory over Fremont in the sectional title game at Eastside.

Hannah Hewes led Fremont with 14 points.

NORTHWOOD 76, WHITKO 35: NorthWood’s 44-18 halftime lead was enough to carry it to the sectional championship at West Noble.

SOUTHERN WELLS 44, COWAN 25: Mallory Preston’s 14 points and 13 from Cristin Carter paced Southern Wells in its sectional title win at Cowan.
