And now ... soccer!

OK, so this is not quite the same as a Fort Wayne Winter Classic. But it's still pretty cool.

I refer, of course, to the Notre Dame-Indiana soccer match, which will be played April 17 as part of the Shindigz National Soccer Festival ... in Parkview Field.

Except for the finish of the Fort4Fitness run last fall, it will be the first time the View will be used for a sporting event other than baseball. And it continues the already established (and politically astute) practice of using the venue for something other than baseball.

Credit festival director Terry Stefankiewicz, who admitted Wednesday people thought he was "crazy" when he first broached the idea.

"It was on a whim," he said.
