Gophers use blowout win to send away Badgers

– Blake Hoffarber had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Minnesota to a 68-52 victory over No. 14 Wisconsin on Thursday night, putting a big dent in the Badgers’ Big Ten title bid.

Trevon Hughes scored 19 points and Jason Bohannon added 18 for Wisconsin (19-7, 9-5), which went almost 8 minutes without scoring down the stretch and was outrebounded 41-28 for the game.

Forward Jon Leuer returned from a broken left wrist that kept him out of the last nine games, but he shot 2 of 12 and had four points. Ralph Sampson III’s defense had a hand in that for Minnesota (15-10, 6-7).

No. 5 SYRACUSE 75, No. 10 GEORGETOWN 71: Andy Rautins scored 26 points, and the Orange (25-2, 12-2 Big East) blew most of a 23-point lead before escaping with a win over the host Hoyas (18-7, 8-6).

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT 74, No. 13 GONZAGA 66: Ashley Hamilton scored 17 points as the host Lions (14-13, 5-6 West Coast Conference) upset the Bulldogs (21-5, 9-2).

No. 17 VANDERBILT 82, MISSISSIPPI 78: A.J. Ogilvy scored 27 points to boost the Commodores (20-5, 9-2 SEC) in Oxford, Miss.

No. 19 PITTSBURGH 58, MARQUETTE 51: In Milwaukee, Gary McGhee had six blocks to lead the Panthers (20-6, 9-4 Big East).

IUPUI 103, UMKC 65: Robert Glenn scored more than 20 points for the fourth straight game as the host Jaguars (19-9, 12-3 Summit) cruised.

Women

No. 2 STANFORD 104, OREGON 60: Jayne Appel had 26 points as the Cardinal (24-1, 14-0 Pac-10) rolled to their 43rd straight home win.

No. 5 TENNESSEE 74, ALABAMA 67: Alyssia Brewer had 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Volunteers (23-2, 11-1) survived a scare against the SEC’s last-place team Tuscaloosa, Ala.

No. 7 OHIO STATE 83, WISCONSIN 78: In Madison, Wis., Samantha Prahalis had 25 points to pace the Buckeyes (26-3, 14-2 Big Ten).

No. 10 FLORIDA STATE 78, VIRGINIA TECH 68: Jacinta Monroe had 20 points to energize the host Seminoles (23-4, 9-2 ACC).

No. 16 KENTUCKY 77, FLORIDA 51: Keyla Snowden scored 21 points, and the host Wildcats (22-4, 10-3 SEC) rallied from six points down at halftime.

No. 23 LSU 55, No. 25 VANDERBILT 39: Katherine Graham scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to propel the host Tigers (18-7, 7-6 SEC) past the Commodores (18-8, 7-6).

NORTHWESTERN 78, INDIANA 73, OT: Beth Marshall’s 26 points paced the host Wildcats.

Jamie Braun had 17 points for the Hoosiers (13-13, 6-9 Big Ten).
