The Chair, remembered

Here's one of those deals that will make you feel old (OK, so maybe it only makes me feel old):

Today is the 25th anniversary of The Chair.

What do you mean, "What chair?"

There's only one Chair, and here it is again, skittering its way across the Assembly Hall floor and into Indiana basketball legend. Look how aerodynamic it is. Check out Coach Knight's form, the smooth motion and flawless release. I bet the guy's a hell of a bowler.

I was sitting on press row that day, which at the time was above and to the right of the Indiana bench. I very clearly remember, as Knight turned around and looked down at the chair, thinking, "No way. He's not gonna do this, is he?"

And then he did it.

And what I remember after that is listening to pennies buzz past my ear as the Assembly Hall crowd turned as ugly as any crowd I've ever been around. It was a truly scary moment.

Now, 25 years later, I just wonder whatever happened to the Chair. If it doesn't have a place of honor somewhere in the IU athletic Hall of Fame, it should.
