Coliseum plaza files Chapter 11

A local shopping center has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a bid to buy time while tenants catch up on overdue rent payments.

George Kotsopoulos and Christine M. Kotsopoulos are co-owners of Coliseum on Parnell LLC, a shopping center with tenants including A Plus Computers, Lamps & Shades Unlimited, Rick O’Shays at Broadripple, Merry Maids and Studio 13 Creative Skin Design.

“We filed for reorganization. We’re staying open. Everything’s fine at the strip mall,” George Kotsopoulos said Wednesday. “The economy is bad; rents don’t come in like they should. We’re working with the banks.”

The filing listed debt between $1,000,001 and $10 million and assets between $1,000,001 and $10 million.

Dana sales fall 35%; net loss narrows

Dana Holding Corp. on Wednesday reported annual sales of $5.2 billion, a 35 percent decline from $8.1 billion in sales booked in 2008.

The Maumee, Ohio-based auto parts manufacturer also reported a net loss for 2009 of $431 million, which included an after-tax charge of $153 million related to the planned sale of its structural products business.

Dana’s fourth-quarter net loss was $236 million, or $2.02 per diluted share, a 5 percent improvement from 2008’s fourth-quarter loss of $249 million, or $2.57 per share.

Generally accepted accounting principles require Dana to separately report its financial performance before and after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Jan. 31, 2008. Those differences make some comparisons, including the annual per-share losses, more difficult to calculate.

Ford finance unit to cut 1,000 jobs

Ford’s finance unit said it is eliminating 1,000 jobs this year, a 20 percent reduction, after the automaker announced plans last week to cut 900 positions at a Mustang factory amid weak demand.

Ford Motor Credit Co., which provides loans to carbuyers and dealers, told employees Tuesday about the job losses, a spokeswoman, Margaret Mellott, said Wednesday.

Ford Credit plans to get rid of most of the jobs by March 31, trimming U.S. employment to 4,000, Mellott said.

U.S. imposes duties on Chinese steel pipe

The Obama administration imposed preliminary duties averaging 12 percent on $382 million of steel pipe imports from China after companies including U.S. Steel complained of unfair subsidies.

Pipemakers are being subsidized by the Chinese government, the Commerce Department said in an e-mailed statement Wednesday. Tariffs to compensate companies will range from about 11 percent to 13 percent on the pipes, which are used in chemical, petrochemical and refinery plants, the department said.
