Irish fall to Huskies

Notre Dame's second game against No. 1 Connecticut started better, but it ended the same as the first meeting – a blowout loss.

The Huskies defeated the No. 7 Irish 76-51 Monday in Purcell Pavilion.

Because of the loss and St. John's 77-65 win over Pittsburgh, Notre Dame will be the fifth seed in the Big East tournament and will have only one bye. The tournament begins Friday in Storrs, Conn.

Notre Dame and St. John's closed the regular-season with identical 12-4 Big East records, but the Red Storm owns the tiebreakers.
