Verbatim: Northeast Indiana non-profit groups join forces

Statement issued Wednesday:

The board of directors of the Nonprofit Association of Northeast Indiana have voted to form a strategic alliance with the Northeast Indiana Nonprofit Alliance, a program of Leadership Fort Wayne, Inc. The NFP Board has elected to donate the remaining assets of the agency to NINA in an effort to streamline the accomplishment of the two groups’ mutual goals.

NINA, now in its fourth year, is a membership program that provides resources, programs and training to assist nonprofit organizations improve and strengthen their leadership and organizational effectiveness to meet the needs of northeast Indiana.

With similar missions, the NFP partnered with NINA in 2009 to coordinate and host the NFP Legislative Breakfast which brings issues and concerns of the local nonprofit industry to the attention of legislators. As a result of this collaboration, the board of directors of the NFP approached LFW NINA to continue to carry on the Legislative Breakfast and activities that are in line with the NFP/NINA missions.

Both organizations recognize that working together, they can provide a more cohesive array of services to the nonprofit community. “This consolidation represents the realities that nonprofit organizations should try to consolidate and collaborate whenever possible and practical. This is a win-win situation for the nonprofit community”, said Terry McCaffrey, NFP Board Chair.

“Once we started working together we realized that our organizational missions were similar and that we were trying to serve similar audiences. It just makes sense to collaborate.” said Becky Hill, NINA Program Director.

Leadership Fort Wayne, Inc. has five programs: the signature Leadership Fort Wayne program trains community leaders in a nine month course of study, the Northeast Indiana Nonprofit Alliance (NINA) provides training and networking for nonprofit leaders and their staff, Youth Leadership Fort Wayne (YLFW), Youth as Resources (YAR) and Leadership Exploration and Development (LEAD) focuses on developing the leadership skills of area youth.
