Give ‘em five (in a row)

Konstantin Shafranov might be 39 years old (or 40 … or 45 … or 150), but there’s no one you’d rather have with the puck on his stick when the game’s on the line.

Shaf’s goal with 1:10 to play broke a 2-2 tie and lifted the streaking Komets to a 4-2 win over Dayton, lengthening their latest winning streak to five straight.

Some items of interest:

* It was another productive night for Matt Syroczynski, except for one thing: He didn’t actually score.

He did, however, have four golden chances, but, as with the Komets in general, couldn’t get the puck to go in the net. And he had an assist, and now has 31 points in 25 games.

* Speaking of guys on a roll, how about Frankie DeAngelis? He scored again to lift his season totals to nine goals and 27 points in 49 games. Right now he’s fifth in the league in scoring among defensemen and second among defensemen in goals.

* Shafranov picked up two more points tonight, and now has 41 for the season.
