A man suspected of robbing a Warsaw bank Tuesday is believed to have played a role in several other bank robberies in northern Indiana and southwest Michigan, Warsaw police said.
The most recent robbery was reported just before 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lake City Bank, 202 E. Center St. A man entered and showed a note ordering a teller to give him all the $20 bills, said Warsaw police Lt. Kip Shuter, a department spokesman.
The robber then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Police believe the man headed south on Indiana Street and then turned west onto Market Street.
The man is described as 25 to 35 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10, white, with a medium build and thick brown mustache and goatee. He wore a green stocking cap, dark gloves, faded blue jeans, white athletic shoes and a waist-length black leather jacket.
Police are working with the South Bend office of the FBI.
Shuter said this same man is believed to have robbed several other banks – including a Bank of America branch in Paw Paw, Mich., on Feb. 13.
In each incident, the robber displayed a note demanding money, Shuter said, adding that the suspects descriptions are all similar.
FBI officials are not releasing the locations of the other bank robberies. The FBI is offering a reward for any tips leading to the arrest of the suspect. Tipsters can call the FBI office at 574-233-4488.
