A few notes about Saturday's girls basketball state finals at Memorial Coliseum.
Tickets going quickly
All unused tickets from the eight participating schools will be returned to the Coliseum and will go on sale at noon Friday.
According to the Coliseum's marketing and media coordinator, Nathan Dennison, the Class 3A game at 6 p.m. could bring in the biggest crowd.
Rushville has already sold out of its ticket allotment and Concordia asked for about 300 additional tickets.
Not all teams got the same allotment, and that was based on the team's ability to sell the tickets.
Despite being 5 hours away, Vincennes Rivet is still expected to bring a big crowd for the 10:30 a.m. Class A game.
Dennison said he expects a sellout for both sessions. Capacity will be 11,500 for the event.
No room at the Inn
Also according to Dennison, at least four hotels around the Coliseum have already been sold out. He said he knew of the Holiday Inn, Marriott, Hilton and Residence Inn hotels don't have any more room.
Five of the teams have yet to practice at the Coliseum, and four of those will do so Friday. Ben Davis has chosen not to practice before the state finals at the facility.
And the Class 4A No. 1 Giants are the only team outside of Fort Wayne not to book a hotel before Saturday's games.
Vera Bradley, a sponsor of the Fan Fest on Friday, is also donating gift bags to all the players for the eight teams.
Vera Bradley reps are passing the bags out to the players when they come to the Coliseum to practice.
Traffic might be a problem
Because of the large crowds expected at the games, traffic congestion on Coliseum Blvd. and Parnell Ave. could be a possibility.
Doors will open for the morning session at 9:30 a.m. and for the afternoon session at 5 p.m. All seating is reserved.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early and carpooling also could be a good idea.
Residents of the area who are not attending the games or the other events at the Expo Center are encouraged to seek alternative travel routes Saturday.
Watching the game in style
16- and 26-person luxury suites are still available for rent for the state finals.
Each suite comes with 16 or 26 game tickets and two parking passes. Food and beverages are not included.
Available suites can be rented for each session or both sessions, depending on availability.
