Mad Antics

Where was the hustle earlier?

OK, enough already about the Mad Ants playing without injured Rob Kurz and the long gone Jared Reiner.

Turns out Reiner might not have had the flu after all, which was the company line last Tuesday when he didn't show up for the Ants' game against Maine.

The 6-foot-11 center was released. Personal reasons, everyone said.

Certainly, Fort Wayne isn't much of a team without either one, but as coach Joey Meyer says, that's part of the game; that's life in the D-League.

What made Thursday's 112-103 loss more infuriating is that the Ants showed some guts late in the game to get back to within six points, after being down 22 earlier.

My question is where was that intensity earlier, when Los Angeles players were running their offense like a walk-through practice, and driving past the Ants defenders as though they were cardboard cutouts? At least with a cardboard cutout, something can get in the way.

We'll see if Friday night's game is any better.
