A suspect in Tuesday's robbery at Lake City Bank in Warsaw is in custody in Valparaiso. The Warsaw Police Department said Joseph Edward Campbell, 35, of Elkhart, attempted to rob the Centier Bank branch on LaPorte Avenue in Valparaiso but was caught after a dye pack exploded on him and police stopped his vehicle.

Police said he matches the description of a man who robbed a Plymouth bank last summer and a Valparaiso bank in December. The Warsaw department said Porter County police and the FBI believe he might be responsible for a number of robberies in northern Indiana and southern Michigan.

It appears that Campbell will be charged in the federal court system, according to Lt. Kip L. Shuter, Warsaw police spokesman.
