Canterbury practices at Coliseum

Canterbury got its chance to workout for an hour at Memorial Coliseum on Friday morning.

The two-time defending Class A state champion Cavaliers were a loose bunch while playing at the same facility that will be the site about 24 hours later for the state championship game against Vincennes Rivet.

Coach Scott Kreiger was in a casual mood and explained that this is the fun time for the team and there really wasn't much more the team could do to prepare for the game, except for getting a feel for the baskets at the Coliseum.

The Cavaliers mainly shot around for the allotted hour, and then posed for a team picture afterward and received shirts from Canterbury athletic director Ken Harkenrider and Vera Bradley gift bags (that all the players in the state finals will receive).

The floor, though, will not be the same one used Saturday for the eight girls basketball state games. The floor at the Coliseum is being used for the two Mad Ants games Thursday and Friday.

For the state finals, eight planks of floor will be taken out and three others will be put down. It will leave the floor about 10-feet shorter than for a Mad Ants or IPFW game.

Harkenrider said about 1,000 tickets were sold to Canterbury fans and only 100 were returned to the Coliseum for fans to purchase Friday and early Saturday morning.
