    The top hurdlers get a second chance in the same meet. Carroll senior Ryan Cavender got that last week at the North Side Sectional in his continuing rivalry with South Side junior Adrian Mable.

Concordia girls claims first state basketball title

Concordia knocked off No. 1 Rushville 59-48 in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday at Memorial Coliseum.

It’s the first state title for the No. 8 Cadets (24-3). Rushville finishes 25-3.

Erynn Meiklejohn scored 16 points, while Angie Doerffler and Anna Goeglein each had 12 while Andrea Newbauer added 11 points.

The Cadets built up an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter and never looked back.
