This morning was no different than any other morning for Denali and me. I ate breakfast, Denali barked. I put away dishes, Denali collapsed begrudgingly on the floor. I put on a pair of sweats, Denali barked. I tied my shoes; Denali wondered was taking me so long.
But by 9:30, we were out for our regular stroll around the neighborhood. The past few months, it's been slick, cold, treacherous ... and lonely. Rarely did we see anything but barren trees and snow drifts.
Today, though. Oh, today. The sun was shining, the air was (relatively) warm. We could hear birds singing sweetly all around. There were squirrels bounding about but only a few did Denali notice, his s snout pointed upward as he basked in the sunshine.
As we looped Lakeside Park, we met a lovely lady with two Schnauzers whom Denali had the pleasure of greeting. Nicely, I might add. We passed a pair of moms pushing strollers up Forest Park Boulevard and, across the street, we both noticed two friends walking with their own dogs.
It was the kind of day where I was glad to have a dog to walk. So, stop reading! Get out! Walk your dog! Trust me, you'll be glad you did.
